Is It Common For Operating System To Hang?
My sister had her new Dell Inspiron laptop sent for repair for 4 times or more. Firstly, it was manufacturer’s fault for the hardware issue which was resolved later after 2 times. Then, it was to do with the Windows Vista with hanged task bar. This task bar doesn’t seem to be happening to a lot of people around as Google doesn’t show much relevant results about it. Is Microsoft going to do something about it?
Dell offered to re-install the whole operating system. We were glad that they tried this option. But it doesn’t work at all. And in the end, this has to do with the programming codes inside Windows Vista. I remember back when I was working for a system integration company for a while, we strongly discourage our customers to install Windows Vista on their computers. So if they are going to buy a new desktop or laptop from us, we will offer our extra service of downgrading their Windows Vista to Windows XP which is much more stable. So the story continues as my sister asked me if it is a common issue for operating system to hang. I answer her “Yes, it is possible.” So far, I find Windows XP most stable of all. Windows ME and Windows Vista seem to have similar issues of trying to be “beautiful” and yet having problems.
So in order to settle that hanged task bar, the temporary solution I found on the net is to press “Alt+Ctrl+Del” to go to Task manager and end the process with “explorer.exe”. Then, when your taskbar is gone, go to Task manager again and run “explorer.exe” to get it started again. It doesn’t solve the problem for sure, but it can give your taskbar a refresh to carry on working.
In other words, Windows Vista is in fact not suitable for use right now.
